THE COTTAGE

The cottage was bulit in 1827 on the shores of Kilcaiman Bay which is an inlet of Galway Bay.  It was part of the nearby Ardfry Estate owned by Lord Wallscourt.  It was renovated in the 1970s and since 1988 has been the home of traditional musicians Jacqueline McCarthy, Tommy Keane and their family.  It was re-thatched in 1989 by master thatcher Hugh O'Neill.  In June 2014 Hugh replaced the ridge and did some other repair work.  You can see "before, during & after" photos of Hugh's work here.

AMERICAN TOUR GROUP

These photos were taken during a visit by a group of  American visitors to our home.

HOUSE CONCERTS

Over the years the house has played host to some of Ireland's leading musicians and many memorable concerts have been held - especially around Christmas time - with proceeds going to local charities.  The special atmosphere in the big room always brings the best out of performers and there is an intimate connection with the audience.

RINVILLE PARK

Rinville Park & Playground is one of the  Destination Points on The Wild Atlantic Way and is just1 km form our home.  It is a wonderful amenity, created around an ancient castle, a stately home and a fine estate demesne, which dates from the 16th century.

With an extensive network of walks through woodlands, open farmland and by the sea, Rinville Park offers a recreational facility of outstanding quality and beauty. The Park has picnic areas and a children's playground, and is open year round. It also boasts the first outdoor gym in Co. Galway.  Admission is free.

NEARBY

We do not take for granted the beautiful area we live in and wehave listed some of the attractions and places nearby worth visiting.  They are all within 20 km of our cottage.
